Updates Regarding the 2027 Pokémon GO World Championships

As previously announced, the Pokémon GO World Championships will feature three-on-three play with teams. Each team will have a minimum of three players and a maximum of four players and be formed from the pool of qualified players. Three players from each team will battle against three players from an opposing team in the same match to determine a winner.

Team formation will be conducted through an open recruitment system once all qualified players are determined at the end of the Season and be facilitated on an official communication platform, which will be shared at a future date. Players will use the platform to recruit players to teams and can recruit players from any rating zone to be a part of a team.

Each team will need to designate a Captain, who will be responsible for finalizing each team’s roster and handling team management for official tournament procedures. The following players will be designated Captains for their exceptional performance in the 2027 Season: Top 4 Finishers from the 2027 Pokémon Japan Championships, Champions from APAC Playoffs, the India Playoffs, Indonesia Playoffs, the South Korea Playoffs, Taiwan Playoffs, and the Thailand Playoffs. These designated Captains will recruit teammates to join their team during the open recruitment phase.

After the open recruitment phase, tournament officials will facilitate a final placement phase to assist qualified players in joining a team. Team rosters will lock when registration closes, but emergency changes will be considered by tournament officials on a case-by-case basis.

Limited meta and other unique format information will be announced in the future.
